FEE SCHEDULES
(A) PERMIT FEES FOR DWELLING UNITS - The fee for building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical permits for NEW CONSTRUCTION of a dwelling unit shall be as follows:
BUILDING finished per square foot $0.12
unfinished interior per square foot 0.09
exterior per square foot 0.08
ELECTRICAL per finished square foot 0.05
PLUMBING per finished square foot 0.05
MECHANICAL per finished square foot 0.05
** The minimum fee for each permit for a dwelling unit shall be $20.00.
Finished Square Footage - Interior heated or air-conditioned space that is insulated and finished.
Unfinished Interior Square Footage - Interior space that has not been insulated, or is not heated, or air conditioned, or has not had the wall or floor finish material applied. Examples are: garages, basements, and bonus rooms.
Exterior Square Footage - Exterior areas that do not have exterior walls and may or may not have roofs. Examples are: porches, screened porches, carports, and decks.
Exempt - Decks and stoops less than 25 square feet and located on the ground story.
(B) Modular Dwelling Units - Same as “A.”
(C) Single-wide and Double-wide Manufactured Units - The fee for the installation of a single-wide or double-wide residential unit shall be $0.12 per square foot.
** The fee for the temporary installation of a single-wide manufactured office or construction unit shall be $40.00
ALL PERMITS SUBJECT TO 1.75% STATE SURCHARGE TAX.

(D) Buildings and Structures Other than Dwelling Units - (Additions, Alterations, and Remodeling) - The fee for the construction of a new building or structure or for the addition or alteration or remodeling of an existing building or structure shall be based on the projected cost for labor and materials as approved by the Building Official. The term “projected cost” shall mean the reasonable value of all materials, labor, services and devices entering into and necessary for the completion of the work in a manner ready for occupancy and use. (Swimming pools - electrical permit needed if putting in underwater lighting.)

(E) Demolition Permits - The fee for the demolition of a building or structure shall be $20.00.
(F) Relocation of a Building or Structure - The fee for the relocation of a building or structure shall be $0.12 per square feet of foundation required, or $20, whichever is greater.
(G) Signs - The fee for the installation of signs shall be as follows:
Base Fee - $20.00 (plus)
Total Area Fee - 0 - 24 Square Feet $10.00
25 - 49 Square Feet $12.00
50 - 74 Square Feet $14.00
75 - 99 Square Feet $16.00
100 - 299 Square Feet $24.00

** Area fee shall be determined by total square footage area of all sign faces.
(H) Tents and Other Temporary Structures - The fee for the installation of tents and other temporary structures shall be $30.00 each.
(I) Amusement Devices - The fee for amusement devices shall be as follows:

(J) Electrical Permit Fees - (All construction except dwellings)

(K) Plumbing Fees - (All construction except dwellings)

(L) Mechanical Fees - (All construction except dwellings)

(M) Uniform Statewide Fire Prevention Code Fees
1. Explosives – Annual – Operational permit for the manufacture, storage, handling sale or use of any quantity of explosive, explosive materials, fireworks, or pyrotechnical special effect. $150
2. Hazardous Materials – Annual – Operational permit for the storage, dispensing, use, or handling of hazardous materials in excess of quantity limits imposed by the Uniform Statewide Fire Prevention Code. $150
3. Miscellaneous Combustible Storage – Annual – Operational permit for the storage inside any building or upon any premises in excess of 2,500 cubic feet gross volume of combustible empty packing cases, boxes, barrels or similar containers, rubber tires, rubber, cork, or similar combustible material. $50
4. Open burning – Operational permit for the kindling or maintaining of an open fire or a fire on any public street, road or other public or private ground. Instructions and stipulations of the permit shall be adhered to.
Exceptions: Recreational fires, agricultural related fires, timber thinning operations, leaves and straw more than 100’ from woods or more than 50’ from lot lines, household garbage within confined burn areas. $25
5. Pyrotechnic Special Effects Material – Operational permit for the use and handling of pyrotechnic special effects material. $25
(N) Re-inspection Fees - A fee of $20.00 shall be charged for the re-inspection of work made necessary due to work not being completed or not accessible for inspection at the time the inspection request is made, or when corrections are not made prior to requesting a re-inspection.
(O) Additional Administrative Fees - A fee of $20.00 shall be charged in addition to normal permit fees to cover the additional administrative costs when work is begun prior to issuance of a permit, or when a building or structure is occupied prior to issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy. Payment of this fee in no way relieves applicant from possible prosecution for violating the Building Code.
(P) Permit Refunds - If work is not pursued under a permit issued pursuant to the Building Code and it is requested that the fee paid thereof be refunded, the County shall retain 15% of the fee or $20.00, whichever is greater, for administrative costs.
(Q) Outside Review of Plans - When the Building Official determines that the complexity of design warrants outside review, the Building Official shall select a qualified plan reviewer and the applicant shall pay the county for the review and all related costs. Prior to review, the applicant shall be advised of the necessity of outside review and of the estimated cost of this review, if that information is available.
(R) Appeal to Local Board of Building Code Appeals - Whenever an appeal is made to the Local Board of Building Code Appeals, the applicant shall pay the entire costs of conducting the appeals meeting.
(S) Exemption for Farm Buildings - No fees shall be charged for the construction of, or alteration to, farm buildings, or structures, as defined by the Code of Virginia. The Building Official shall provide a special Farm Building Exemption Notice for new construction to any utility company requested, upon receiving satisfactory proof that the building or structure is a farm building as defined by the Code of Virginia.
