Senior Animal Control Officer
Animal Control Officer
The Board of Supervisors has adopted local ordinances that parallel state laws governing the licensing of dogs, the appointment of each Animal Control Officer (ACO), the disposition of dogs that kill or injure livestock or poultry, and other miscellaneous provisions controlling animals.
State laws governing the control of domestic animals and all related ordinances are enforced by the ACOs appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Greensville County may contract with another locality to help enforce the laws pertaining to animal control if deemed necessary.
ACOs are responsible for the intake and care of animals in the county animal shelter and will follow all guidance provided by the Virginia Department of Agricultural Services (VDACS). VDACS inspectors make periodic inspections to insure compliance with all applicable laws. All ACOs employed by the County are required to attend the VDACS Animal Control Officer School and receive Certified Firearms Training.
Animals may be adopted directly from Greensvile County Animal Shelter. Doris Ozmar (Animal Control Officer) can be contacted at (434) 637-3521 and will be glad to assist you with the process.
