Pursuant to statute and due to the recognized need, the Board of Supervisors of Greensville County created the Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority (GCWSA) on February 21, 1978.  The purposes for which the Authority was created were the acquisition, construction, operation, and maintenance of water systems, sewer systems, sewage disposal systems and to exercise the powers conferred by the Virginia Water and Sewer Authorities Act, Section 15.11-1250, Code of Virginia, 1950 as amended.  The Authority  serves an area consisting of  Greensville County, and the Town of Jarratt, portions of the City of Emporia, and  Sussex County.
