Greensville County and the City of Emporia have each received a $175,000 grant from the Virginia Wireless Board for the implementation of a Shared Services E-911 Computer Aided Dispatch System. Under a Shared Services arrangement, each locality will continue to operate an E-911 Dispatch Center, but will share services and similar dispatch equipment. Sharing Services saves equipment costs and allows centers to switch call answering capabilities between them seamlessly, without the delays encountered when having the telephone carrier make the switch when one center experiences problems. Sharing Services is an important first step towards the potential future consolidation of the centers.
